Wheelchair and child friendly place to visit within Sunderland University grounds. It has a gallery showing modern art pieces made of glass. The gentleman 'curator' was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. There is a 'museum' area that shows the history of glass. The information was easy to read and understand. They had a room that they were using for a craft activity for children. My favourite part was a glassblowing demonstration where 2 lovely guys produced a glass multicoloured vase. The restaurant was good quality but maybe a little on the expensive side. The shop had a wide variety of glass items as well as other souvenirs to suit all budgets. The toilets are clean and there is a disabled one available too. This centre is fully accessible and all the staff are friendly and helpful. Well worth a look visit. We took a walk along the Riverside after where you can see some interesting sculptures. The National Glass Centre runs a great variety of glass and ceramic classes / workshops. Check the website and be sure to book in advance to guarantee a place. The classes are extremely popular.
My family had been to the glass museum a couple off times before and where very enthusiastic so when we had family visiting from Japan my wife wanted to take them there. I was a little dubious but it was a big success. The building is very stylish and packed with interesting exhibits. The best bits are the demonstrations of working with glass. These have all the elements of tense theatre as you watch a glass product being made and hope that it doesn't end up in pieces on the floor. Highly recommended.

The staff were very very helpful when I wanted my holiday transferred to another airport although I had booked on line. This holiday was to go to India (Goa) unfortunately I had to cancel this holiday due to a medical problem. The staff did this for me as I was unable to do it myself it was cancelled without any problem. I will certainly use this branch in future for all of my holidays to come. A very big thank you to all the holiday consultants at the Sainsbury's retail park.

A lovely evening to look at the tall ships. Plenty of stewards and police presence making you feel safe. Lots of stalls selling food and refreshments and no shortage of portaloos.
The Tall Ships Sunderland 2018, at the Port of Sunderland, were fantastic to see. Especially since you can't get into the port normally!

First time booking with purple travel and deffinately will not be the last, special thanks to Jack who not only listened to every requirement we had but done it without the typical sales talk, he also shown a great understanding of our needs and maintained a professional manor through out, nothing was to much hard work for him and he even went the extra mile to email the hotel we chose to stay with to make sure we could get rooms next to each other for me and my family, thank you once again Jack you made something that was quite stressful seem so simple, it was a pleasure doing business with you, you are a credit to your company, Kind regards, The Taylor Family.

Lovely tidy park to take your family for a picnic. Have a drink and a snack in the cafe ,have a lovely stroll around the gardens. Put your young ones in the play area.

I love this little park. It's a little patch of calm and quiet. The dog walkers and photographers - of which there are many - always give a friendly greeting. It's full of snowdrops, daffodils and bluebells in the spring. You can still see the remains of the walled kitchen garden - which was heated in its day for grapevines, and the gardener's wheelbarrow path. Friends of the Park work to keep it in shape - sometimes a thankless task, I think. Their efforts are appreciated and long may they continue.
Its a lovely lil place to walk yer dogs and also just for a quite walk with friends on a hot day
